There seems to be a bit of confusion going around, so for clarification's sake...
We are *not* replacing Horizon with Vertigo; they are the same site scheme (same links, same styling, etc.). Horizon is the horizontal version with drop-down menus, and Vertigo is its vertical counterpart, with all the links openly displayed instead of in a sub-menu.
That said, to try out Vertigo, go to the Viewing Options page, and select VertigoBETA as your site scheme (and hit [Save] at the bottom of the page). You can switch back at any time via this page.
There's a BETA FEEDBACK link in the top blue bar in VertigoBETA – we'd love to hear what you think, what works for you, and what doesn't. Commenting has been disabled on this post because we'd like to keep the feedback all in one place, so please use the form; we do read every piece of feedback that comes in, and appreciate your input. See the rest of this post for what we've added/changed based on your feedback from a few posts ago.
Thank you guys for all the feedback you provided in the earlier stages, when Vertigo was still just an image mockup. Based on your feedback and the results from the first poll, we decided to go with the wider column, with padding on either side of the userpic (& to keep it displayed), and the "Home, Site Map, Viewing Options, Help" links in the top bar.
We also incorporated a few of your other suggestions that we also thought made a lot of sense and would help to improve the user experience:
- "Pictures" has been renamed back to "ScrapBook"
(a lot of you said that you often confused "Pictures" with userpics)
- and moved it further down the menu, after Communities
(used less often, and would require scrolling past in Vertigo where it takes up more space than it does in Horizon)
- link to MyLJ has been removed from the main navigational menu
(We're working on a new logged in homepage that will incorporate the more useful elements from MyLJ. The page is still there and accessible; it's just no longer linked in the main navigational menu.)
Thanks for all the great feedback so far; keep it coming! :)
